Well, today is Labor Day. While for many of us it is simply a day off of work and school, but have you taken the time to wonder why we celebrate such a day? According to history.com, "Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers .... It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894." In the late 19th century working conditions were rather horrifying, especially for the lower class and immigrants. The movement that spurred the creation of labor day also initiated fairer, safer working conditions. It makes me grateful for the conviction and determination of those individuals who were willing to take a stand for a better life.
In reflecting on those of our past, I wanted to share a little background to the name of our brand, WE Custom Leather.
The brand, WE with a quarter circle on top, was the livestock brand of my great-great-grandfather William England. This is the man of whom I share a name. I grew up hearing stories and being taught to honor this great man, which inspired me to live up to the respectful name I carry. Holding his brand also became something that I hoped would one day be my honor. Eight years ago I was finally able to register the WE quarter circle in my
name. as our family livestock brand in the State of Idaho. When I shared news with my grandfather, he was overjoyed and instructed me to never lose it, and I don't intend to.

That is the story behind the WE quarter circle that identifies our leather goods. It is this legacy I strive to embody in all I do. I'm thankful for the freedom and ability to work as I wish and make quality leather products that aid individuals in the ranching lifestyle that has been lived by my family for generations.
Charles Kingsley once said, "Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do which must be done, whether you like it or not. Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you temperance, self-control, diligence, strength of will, content, and a hundred other virtues which the idle never know."
